The WD Purple 6TB is a 3.5-inch surveillance hard drive designed for continuous recording in mainstream DVR and NVR systems. It is optimized for write-intensive, low-bit-rate and high-stream-count surveillance workloads and incorporates WD AllFrame technology to help maintain smooth video recording.

The drive uses CMR recording technology, features a 256MB cache, and supports transfer rates of up to 175MB/s. It supports surveillance installations with up to 64 HD cameras and up to 16 drive bays, making it suitable for larger CCTV storage requirements.
